Mediator in US-Kurd Talks with ISIL Gunned down in Northeastern Syria

TEHRAN (defapress)- Field sources in Northeastern Syria reported on Sunday that Ibrahim Ahmad al-Salama, a mediator in the talks between the US and ISIL terrorist group in Raqqa province, was killed by unknown gunmen.

Mediator in US-Kurd Talks with ISIL Gunned down in Northeastern SyriaThe sources said that al-Salama was the mediator in the talks between the US forces and its allied SDF and the ISIL for the exit of the latter from the town of al-Tabaqa and Raqqa city.

They went on to say that al-Salama was assassinated by several unidentified gunmen who spoke Kurdish language on Thursday, adding that the assailants attacked al-Salama's house in al-Tabaqa and gunned him down after seizing his mobile and searching his house.

The sources said that al-Salama kept the voice of the talks between the US officers, Kurds and ISIL in Raqqa and al-Tabaqa.

Based on reports, al-Salama was first close to ISIL but started cooperating with the Syrian Democratic Forces and the US-led coalition after the ISIL retreated from Raqqa.

Local sources in Hasaka in Northeastern Syria said on Saturday that the US helicopters conducted heliborne operations in the village of Tuwaimin, 50km Northeast of al-Shadadi, in Southern Hasaka.

The sources said that 4 militants, including an ISIL security commander, were evacuated from the region in the operations.

The area where the operation took place is still occupied by the terrorist group.
